| Panom is the Thai word for the act of placing the hands, palms together, to the head, as in a wei, expressing humility within the Buddhist pulse so ever present where I live in Northern Thailand. Panom is also the name of a lovely elephant I met in a small Thai village in 1998. And I use the term ‘baan Panom’ to represent my habitat—not only the physical place where I live but also my spiritual domain. The Panom Ladder Project embraces a sense of gift exchange and my own personal investment in what I believe to be important in giving back to my community. The Panom Ladder Project helps support scholarships and small business funds, assisting young, bright hill tribe individuals with the opportunity to secure higher education and better opportunities. In this way, I’m dedicating certain creative projects to help a few climb a bit higher than otherwise possible. |
